Portrait - Huile sur toile signée

Lot n° 2189
40cmx40cm
The male portrait/self-portrait is protruding from a dark background only in half, gazing directly at the viewer, the second eye remaining in the darkness. The hairless man with red eyes and low ears is wearing a petrol green coat. Interestingly, Jean Rustin, whose main body of work was dominated by abstraction, decided to fully return to figuration in the 1970s. He is a French painter, who studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and lived for a while in New York.
