According to Antoine Coypel's memoir, Adam's bust of Louis XV in the guise of Apollo was designed for the gardens at Choisy and modelled in his presence. A terracotta version was presented by Adam at the 1741 Salon. Thirion illustrates an engraving of a version in the collection of Baron Edmond de Rothschild with a different socle (op.cit., p. 127).
