A tortoiseshell and gold mounted portrait box, Paris 1777, miniature signed Augustin
Round shaped, the lid set with a miniature on ivory of a young woman wearing a muslin dress and ochre shawl, signed lower left Augustin. The base is piqued with a music trophy in several shades of gold. Could be Jean Baptiste Jacques Augustin (1759-1832) French painter and miniaturist, diameter 8cm, weight (gross) 172gms.
