The canvas has not been lined. There is some visible craquelure throughout and some stretcher marks along the edges including corresponding to the central stretcher member. Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals areas of uneven varnish and some areas of retouching including:

- some strokes along the upper framing edge addressing frame rubbing;

- a small area in the upper left corner; and

- some pin-head sized spots in the man's lips and collar.

Otherwise, this work is overall in fairly good condition and is ready to hang.

Presented in a decorative gilt frame.
